Hunters on Amazon Prime

Updated: Apr 23, 2023

On January 27, was the International Holocaust Remembrance Day — a day in which we honor the six million Jewish Victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism. The Holocaust (which took place between 1933–1945) was the systematic murder of Jewish adults and children — an action which was carried out and sponsored by the Nazi government.

And the recent release of Hunters on Amazon Prime Video which is a story of a group of Nazi hunters who discover hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials in 1977 New York City, conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the U.S.; the Hunters set out to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their new genocidal plans. The Nazis, just saying the term sends chill down my spine and the white supremacy ideology that still prevalent in the organizations like the Proud Boys, the fantasy story in the Hunters doesn’t escape much the spine chilling reality where hate crimes against the Jewish population are still skyrocketing. But Hunters offers a solace as its a story of revenge and yielding the ultimate punishment to the Nazis who still preside in the general population hiding behind their ordinary personas trying to hide among the people they hate.

( Spoiler Alert)

The Hunters merges the actual history of suffering with the unbelievable fantasy of Hilter actually being alive and hiding in South America, while the premise still seems believable as hate crimes are skyrocketing and there is much to discover about where the Nazi ideology comes from. As I write this, 8 people have died in a synagogue shooting, which has become a norm which is just sad for the current state of humanity.

Hatred chokes and stifles progress of humankind and the creator of Hunters bravely explores the same in a story that is humourously violent, satisfying, poignant and a reflection of the state of humankind where Hilter has to be found gulity of the crimes he has committed towards 8 million Jewish people in the International Court of Justice. Shocking indeed but even Hilter deserves a defence according to the Human Rights Commission.

The characters of Jonah Heidelbaum ( Logan Lerman) whose family was disintegrated under the rule of Nazi Germany is the main protagonist of his series that will take you on a ride of seeking revenge for the emotional scars caused by the generational trauma endured by his immediate family by joining the ranks of his grandmother.

He is accompanied in his quest to hunt Nazis by Meyer Offerman ( Al Pacino) Polish-Jewish philanthropist and Holocaust survivor who recruits and leads the Hunters but who is also a bad wolf, watch to know what I mean. Jerrika Hinton as Millie Morris, an FBI agent who stumbles onto the Fourth Reich and the Hunters during a murder investigation. Hinton focused the most on the character’s overwhelming faith on powerful institutions meant to protect citizens, such as the FBI. Saul Rubinek as Murray Markowitz (season 1), is Mindy’s husband and the Hunters’ electronics expert; a German-Jewish Holocaust survivor. Along with his wife Carol Kane as Mindy Markowitz, Murray’s wife and the Hunters’ signals expert; a German-Jewish Holocaust survivor. Josh Radnor as Lonny Flash, an actor and master of disguises for the Hunters. Tiffany Boone as Roxy Jones, a member of the Hunters who specializes in counterfeiting and forgery. And the most badass hunter of all, that is Kate Mulvany as Sister Harriet, a former MI6 operative who now works with the Hunters; a former German-Jewish child refugee. The legend Jennifer Jason Leigh joins the Hunters (season 2) as Chava Apfelbaum, a Jewish Nazi hunter, and Ruth’s sister and Jonah’s great-aunt. Together, they embark on adventures that deliver justice that is benefiting to Nazi scum.
