The international emmys nominated korean drama is heartwarming, goofy, hilarious but also deeply moving with its impeccable flow of an evolving storyline. The K-Drama has spawned several discussions about its portrayal of autism as the lead protagonist of the story is an autistic lawyer, and has come in for some well-deserved praise for the stellar writing and immensely-likeable characters.
While the series lost the award in its category, its global success is attributed to the special award winner, Park Eun-bin who shines as attorney Woo who captures hearts with her goofy quirks and peculiar behaviours that leads the viewers to empathise with the struggles of her character as well as its open dialogue on autism which is spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. Although autism can be diagnosed at any age, it is described as a “developmental disorder” because symptoms generally appear in the first 2 years of life.
The mega hit korean drama as a webtoon adaptation where Woo Young-woo is a rookie attorney on the autism spectrum at one of Korea’s most prestigious law firms, Hanbada. Using her encyclopedic memory and creative thought process, she can find unconventional solutions to the toughest cases — but can she succeed while facing discrimination and stigma?
Without giving too much of the storyline away, here are some memorable scenes that will surely make you binge this show:
Young-woo’s best friend Geurami is the lawyer’s biggest cheerleader. The girls met in high school, when rebellious Geurami defended the quiet Young-woo from bullies, and they’ve been besties ever since. Her character gives me friendship envy. And Kang Tae-oh as Lee Jun-ho is lovable, huggable and can become people’s bias after you see him treating Young-woo. Just watch to know what I am talking about.
