In 2017, Strong Girl Bong-soon captured hearts of kdramas lovers and mine as it was the second kdrama I had ever watched and crushed the competition to become one of the highest-rated K-dramas in South Korean cable history. But this had something to do with the on and now confirmed off screen chemistry between its star couple: Park Hyung-Sik and Park Bo-young. And the fans of the show are shipping them hard.
Given the series’ award-winning pedigree and commercial success, it only makes sense that JTBC would eventually return to the show’s beloved universe to expand the Strong Girl universe.
Enter Strong Girl Nam-soon, the much-hyped spin-off starring Lee Yoo-mi (Squid Game) as the titular character, who is the sixth cousin of Bong-soon. Like all the women in her bloodline, she’s born with supernatural strength due to a genetic anomaly that’s inherited matrilineally. But unlike the others, who are “merely” Hulk-level strong, Bong-soon is special because she also possesses enhanced speed and senses.
The formidable strength depicted with the three generations of women in the show is the highlight for me as the story progresses, the women lead the action, change and are a pillar of strength connected together as a family and through their powers.
While the story evolution is something that you have to experience yourself, the most under rated aspect of the show is the love that it's villain, Byeon Woo-seok. He has sheered adoration for his looks, personality and command on screen sending netizens into a frenzy that love him to the moon and back with hundreds of fan accounts online just celebrating his beauty with fan videos and photos of the handsome actor and model with chiseled abs.
Another lovable goofball who plays the handsome detective is Ong Seong-wu( Wanna Be One Singer and Actor) who captures criminals and protects Namsoon with lovable ferocity.
Here is a teaser for the lovable and goofy show, watch at your own peril as you may become sucked into the strong girl universe.
