Interestingly, Sherlock’s elusive social status as a bachelor and being “clueless about women” also played a pivotal role in the creation of Enola Holmes, as it allowed the story writer Nacy Springer to write a character that “could blindside him time after time.” And blindside it does. Nancy has also stated that Enola is partially based on her own life which is also something that permeates through the screen as can be said for a number of women especially those starting their professional careers and facing the uphill battle of climbing the societal ladder of proving themselves as professional women in their chosen profession but Enola does it wearing an uncomfortable corset while famously breaking the fourth wall adding a direct sense of connection with the audience.
