A Netflix reality show where 18 designers gather to produce the best they have to offer to win $250,000 and debut a collection on luxury fashion retailer site Net-a-Porter.

A money grab and a retail deal with a global brand, a budding designer dream. Let's delve into the world of NEXT IN FASHION and dissect the looks based In the challenges but first lets me introduce you to the hosts, recurring judges and guest judges on the show.

Hosts:


The show is hosted by designers Tan France from the hit Netflix show Queer Eye & Alexa Chung, who is a model, writer & television presenter.

Contestants:


The designers (contestants) from all over the world are paired with each other to produce the best designs they have to offer to fit the brief provided by the hosts.

We have eighteen designers from all over the map competing with each other as well as together.




We have Lorena Saravia Butcher from Mexico; Narresh Kukreja from India; Angelo Cruciani from Italy; Carli Pearson, Daniel Fletcher &Claire Davis from England; Nasheli Ortiz-Gonzalez from Puerto Rico; Hayley Scanlan from Scotland; Charles Lu from Canada; Minju Kim from South Korea.

And from the United States, Isaac Saqib; Julian Woodhouse; Farai Simoyi-Agbede ; Kianga 'Kiki' Milele; Adolfo Sanchez; Marco Morante & Ashton Hirota.



The hosts also double as Judges along with recurring judges Elizabeth Stewart,(Hollywood stylist to the stars) and Eva Chen,( director of fashion partnerships at Instagram).


Guest Judge: Monique Lhuillier, Filipino fashion designer & creative director known for her bridal, ready-to-wear and lifestyle brand joins the bandwagon to judge the red carpet challenge.


Favourite Looks:




Angel & Minju(South Korea):

A flowy samurai armour inspired hot pink draped gown with slicked-back hair and red heels to accentuate the dress.



Carli & Daniel(England):

A classic white fitted high neck sleeveless top with a long black skirt paired with black high heels.





Julian & Hayley(United States & Scotland):

This dramatic matrix inspired two looks in one outfit with matching gloves and glasses. A black wrapped dress with a hot pink underlined that reveals itself when tucked out from the skirt blossoming into a flower on the runway.


Prints & Patterns

The designers are handled a brief to either create their prints and patterns using a printer or use the material from the shop to design not one but two looks each for men & women.



Guest Judge: Prabal Gurung

world-famous Nepalese-American fashion designer who is known for his designs and personal brand.

Favourite Looks:



Farai & Kiki(United States):

Farai & Kiki infused their African heritage into the prints & patterns look with an easy design for the men wear and womenswear look.

And a white sneaker to keep the attention on the outfit.

And for the women wear look the heavy black & gold print is coordinated on a casual u-neck dress with a white freeform flowy lining underneath.

A casual beige sandal to keep the attention on the outfit.

Ashton & Marco(United States):

Bold designs inspired by pop star Gwen Stefani.

A statement outfit with a classic black sleeveless t-shirt with a yellow neon pieces on either side with orange neon threads hanging loosely on the top paired with a blue & brown plaid Scottish skirt.

And for the womenswear look a fitted cross top in multi neon coloured pattern paired with a plaid short-long skirt.


The Suit

The designers are charged with making their interpretation of a three-piece "Suit" in a day and a half to impress the guest judges.



Guest Judges: Jason Bolden (an American entrepreneur; a creative director, fashion stylist and interior designer widely regarded for his clean aesthetic and elegant approach to style and living).

And Philip Lim (an American fashion designer of Chinese descent whose parents immigrated to America from Thailand during the Cambodian genocide.

Lim co-founded and worked at the Los Angeles-based fashion label Development from 2000 to 2004.)




Carli & Daniel:

This major shoulder moment in a plain camel beige suit with a fitted shirt and pant with black heels.



Angelo & Charles:

A new twist on the classic suit shape with a dark grey material criss-cross Ed with balloon sleeves and a fitted knee-length harem pant with light pink heels.



Angelo & Charles:

A dramatic piece with a train and accentuated shoulders and a deep V-neck to make it sexy.


Streetwear

The designers are tasked with designing two streetwear looks each for men and women.



Guest Judge: Founder of Pyer Moss, Kerby Jean Raymond & recurring Judge Jason Bolden.





Aston & Marco:

A modern look duo in earthy looks with a matching beige jacket and jorts topped off with a hat for the menswear.

And a beige colour maxi dress with a peek-a-boo neckline with a panelled shrug and a beanie.




Angelo & Charles:

A bold red t-shirt with a white lining on the neck tucked in a black paint for the menswear look.

And a draped hoodie style short dress with a dramatic train with a bold black belt.


Underwear

The next challenge thrown to the contestants that they have to conquer is the essential underwear.



Guest Judge: Supermodel, Adrina Lima, a regular at Victoria Secret Fashion Shows judges the challenge.




Carli & Daniel:

A soft lace feminine feel for the men through the soft pastel boxers and loose shirt.

A strong black flowy black overlay with a lace neckline for the women's lingerie look breakthrough the stereotypical gender roles.



Aston & Marco:

A superhero nod with neon colours and cutwork in both looks.

As well as an inclusive choice with models is a great sight to see.


Rock

The next challenge is all about rock& roll.



Guest Judge: Christopher Kane(A Scottish fashion designer based in London whose brand is now part of Kering).



Ashton & Marco:

These glittery black & gold looks are very rock & roll with a contrast of materials used to depict the rock & the roll.


Activewear:

Create activewear looks that are both function & fashionable and the digital printer is back.



Guest Judge:

Josephine Aberg( Vice President of design at Adidas )



Ashton:

This ready to wear look is fresh, something new with the extra panelling in the front of the boxers.

A simple fit white tee with a fitted jacket and a new design on the boxers with sports shoes is a look that will leave everyone staring.




Minju:

A superhero inspired design in pastels colours with a kimonosque pullover with a bright neon orange string and neon pink high socks and plain black shoes make this whole look original and a steal.



Charles

An activewear look that is effortlessly chic with a black & white colour scheme with beautiful slits on the sides of the boxer paired with a fitted white sports bra and a white coverup with a black lining.



Daniel

A colour- blocking masterpiece with harry potter inspiration behind the design.

A fitted bodysuit with white boxers and a long scarf to make it edgy.


Military:

To salute to fashion, the company contestants have to show their military pattern influence or incorporate the strict military-style aesthetic.


Guest Judges: Public School(Dao-Yi Chow & Maxwell Osborne are embarking on an ambitious sustainability effort at a time when such endeavours very much in vogue. Public School, the edgy New York fashion label, once was hailed as the next big thing).



Angel:

A kimonosque inspired golden shine effortless look with black heel boots.



Ashton:

A dark all-black look with major shoulders & harnesses and long black boot heels.


Denim

Each of the contestants has to produce two denim looks each for this semi-final challenge.



Guest Judge: Tommy Hilfiger (American fashion designer and founder of Tommy Hilfiger Corporation. Builder of one of the most recognisable brands on the planet).



Minju:

Bold & geometric strong lines with a hint of metallic denim and a straight silhouette.



Angel:

Dramatic bleached denim half-open jacket with jeans & a classic black gown with a splatter of neon yellow.



Daniel:

Two sustainable denim looks made from scraps of cloth from other designers into a balloon dress with a mountain landscape & a clean black & white denim long jacket with a simple turtleneck t-shirt& pants.


The Finale:

The contestants are thrown the deep end and set to produce a collection of ten looks each best representing their style & brand.



Special Guest Judge: Elizabeth Von Der Goltz(global buying director for Net-a-Porter)



Daniel's Collection:

Daniel's collection is one of modern casual wear with an edge of a silver dress.



Minju's Winning Collection:

Minju's collection channels her South Korean heritage & entries it with modern edgy wear for the present and provides a fresh lens into her style.
