The Fashion at the 95th Academy Awards: Mindy Kaling to Eva Longoria

The 95th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles rolled out a champagne carpet , not red to mimic the feel of the mellow feeling of a gorgeous sunset where stars stunned in a mostly some stand out fashion looks. While some stars hit the nail on the head, others wore the same boring plain cloth assembled in a haphazard shape resembling a silhouette.

The most important standout of the champagne carpet was Iranian actress, Shohreh Aghdashloo in a Christian Siriano black and white creation that resonated the war cry of “Women, Life, Freedom” which became the unofficial slogan of protests in Iran that started after the September death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman who died while in the custody of Iran’s morality police. On the other side of her dress, on Aghdashloo’s overskirt were the names of Amini and two other Iranian women who were murdered in September 2022 for participating in the anti-government protests — Hajar Abbasi, 70, and Nika Shakarami, 16.

The custom-made black and white sleeveless silk gown with a black silk-taffeta overskirt embroidered on one side with the words the slogan emessed the fashion moment to mean much more than a platform to adorn beautiful designer clothes and jewels. She sparkled with emboldening the freedom movement in her home country of Iran on the world stage.

My desi beauty stunned and wowed at the champagne carpet as she wore a structured white gown with visible boning in the otherwise transparent bodice and an accentuating structured peplum ruffle on the hip. The dress also featured delicate spaghetti straps and detached flared sleeves to add drama with its carefully curated pieces by design extraordinaire Vera Wang.

She got the memo that its the Oscars, as a presenter, the identical dress in black didn’t disappoint, the dress is constructed so beautifully in its construction and tailoring that we need to see it in every color.

Oscar winner, Ariana DeBose sparkled in a pluging figure-hugging beautifully tailored creation from Versace. The geometric sharp lines accentuated her body shape with sharp shoulders wrapped in chiffon in a chevron pattern with an unneccesary train that was too much and shifted focus from the amazing dress. The slit added enough sexiness, while the train took away from the dress, some editing would have made this champagne carpet moment much more memorable.

Drop dead gorgeous latina, Eva Longoria stunned in a see-through low plunging sparkly creation from Zuhair Murad, one oof my favourite designers hands down. The dress was similar in its color and construction to Ariana DeBose Versace look, but the sexy was ramped up with a see-through lace fabric pieces with a lot of crystals, leaving a sizzling energy emission that burned everyone who looks at it.

Tems/Vanguard News

Nigerian songstress, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems arrived at the 2023 Oscars in a stunning white dress with an exaggerated grand white hood that beautifully blocked audience’s views of people sitting behind her at the Oscars. The rused white organza enveloped her body accentuated her curves making her one of the best dressed of the evening.

Tems was nominated for the 2023 edition of the Oscars in the category of Best Original Song courtesy of a collaboration she had on the song, “Lift Me Up” with popular singer, Rihanna; music producer, Ludwig Göransson; and Black Panther’s director, Ryan Coogler.

These were my top favorites and be sure to discover the other looks of the evening down below. Like, comment and subscribe for fierce fashion updates.
