Updated: Jun 30, 2022

“Creativity is your best makeup skill, don’t be afraid to experiment.” – Pat McGrath

The Netflix original series " Glow Up" in its third season showcases the best of fresh talent from the make-up industry. This season embraces the creativity and experimentation of make-up from different perspectives of the diverse MUA's as contestants.

Maya Jama glows up the host line-up joined by make-up and beauty experts: Val Garland and Dominic Skinner. In the search for Britain's next star make-up artist who has a chance of winning the coveted title of the Glow-Up Winner. In the end, the crowned winner gets to walk away with experience under their belt and a contract to expand their wings as a professional artist. . During each series, 10 aspiring make-up artists are put through the grinder with challenging creative briefs and assignments.

Here are the top make-up looks by the talented MUA's in Season 3 of Glow Up:

Dolli Okoriko make-up

Dolli Okoriko, a professional make-up artist and a mum honoured her daughter by featuring the theme of afro-futurism, a way to celebrate her lineage through her art. With a jaw-dropping interpretation of the make-up look that gives the judges an idea of what the MUA's are all about, Dolli certainly left a mark with her sparkly afro princess hair and indelible make-up skills. This look especially is my personal favourite as it challenged the age-old stereotype of Black women to lightning their skin for a beautiful look, Dolli rather made her skin darker to accentuate the gold details with shades of black, blue & grey to achieve this masterpiece that blew the judges away.

Sophie's Make-up

Sophie's mask make-up Is an explosion of bright hues and tones with a white base which is extremely hard to pull off. The mask has a deeper meaning: the social phenomenon of 'masking' is used to talk about Women with Autism and how we may alter our characteristics or behaviours to appear Neurotypical within society.

Sophie's Freedom Make-up

Sophie displayed her feminist upbringing by using the colours of the suffragette flag in the style of Celtic war paint to pay homage to her maternal Irish heritage. The darkest blue across the eyes with pops of neon green, rosy pink & white make the make-up seem simple but it is the technical art piece to marvel at while appreciating the fine details of the finished look.

Ryley's Geode Make-up Realness

The self-taught MUA Ryley is on a journey to embrace her birthmark, first, she used make-up to hide her birthmark but now she transforms it into a geode with studs to replicate the authenticity of a geode. Truly spell-bounding as the make-up artistry and thought process is unlike anyone. Kudos to you Ryley, love your make-up.

Ryley's Alien-Inspired Make-up Artistry

Ryley used a bald cap for the first time and creating something truly spectacular. The simplicity of this look featuring black and gold added to that futuristic feel of the make-up artistry. In addition to this, there’s this unnerving feeling that the creature she created isn’t quite human. Especially with the addition of branches which were quite hard to attach to the model's back.

Craig's Musical Notes of Makeup

Craig's electric spray-painted musical fantasy is a fresh take to showcase a person's passion for music. This zig-zag masterpiece of musical notes is a dream for any music enthusiast to look at and ponder in its glory.

So, to conclude the masterful creations of this trilogy, Glow Up is a must-watch for those who appreciate the finer intricacies of make-up.
