JOHOR BAHRU:Home to Legoland

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

As soon as you enter the much-coveted Legoland, you can't help but admire the attention to detail in the statutes located everywhere your eyes wander.

The attention to detail is taken to another level when you observe the replicas of very important buildings reconstructed with legos with an extra gimmick to enhance interest. From the tiny moving boats to the splashing of waves to the addition of music, you can't help but mask in its architectural glory.

The most fun activity that you can experience is the Ninja fighting game which is a joy in itself but is given a little extra something with the addition of laser guns.

"LEGOLAND" is a recreation of famous musical instruments, walls to funny characters to amuse & delight your senses

An array of legos from giraffes, colorful cockatoos, sharks, octopuses to dinosaurs give Legoland their trademark.

The most intricate piece of architecture was the Lego Christmas Tree surrounded by Lego gifts & ornaments to mark the festivities and the roller-casters to delight the thrill-seekers(i am terrified of roller coasters).

Johor Bahru not only offers the Legoland but is most famous for its shopping complexes where you can find anything and everything your heart desires.

The varieties! The affordability! The convenience! These aren't my words but the words of every taxi driver who wants the tourists to visit the elusive shopping mecca in Johor Bahru.

There is no doubt that Johor Bahru is a shopping haven for many Singaporeans and tourists alike.

With so many choices of shopping malls in JB, you might be having a hard time choosing which best suits you.

Not to worry! Here are my top recommendation for you to save big and satisfy your shopping spree urge:

1. Sunway Big Box Village

Sunway Big Box Village or also known as Sunway Big Box Retail Park is Johor Bahru's new mall located at the township of Sunway Iskandar.

Sunway Group brought Malaysians the joy of shopping in Kuala Lumpur with its flagship mall, Sunway Pyramid which I had the joy of visiting, so it doesn’t disappoint us with Sunway Big Box Village.

2. JB City Square + Komtar JBCC

This is the most convenient shopping mall once you are out from the Johor Bahru Customs is JB City Square.

The City Square JB offers delicacies from local Malaysian food, Japanese & Korean cuisine, dim sum to buying confectionery products to bring home to Singapore.

Generally, this mall is better known for its FOOD and less known for its shopping traits (however, you can shop for basic items here as you can at every shopping complex).

3. Johor Premium Outlet

Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) is one of the designer brands' premium outlets around Malaysia.

Just name a brand of sportswear, clothing, or accessories and you will most likely find it in Johor Premium Outlet.

Although it is quite a distance away from JB Customs (about 40 minutes drive), it is worth the trip if you are into brands like:

  • Coach

  • Adidas

  • Jimmy Choo

  • Kate Spade

  • Gucci

  • Lululemon

  • Michael Kors and others alike the name famous brands.

A special shoutout to the most important aspect of any travel plan is selecting a hotel that meets all your needs and that has always been the PNB Perdana Hotels and Suites on the Park in Malaysia where I had the pleasure of staying on most of my stopovers over to Singapore, Bali, Johor Bahru and Hong Kong.

If you want a once or a different travel experience each time discovering the corners of Malaysia, I highly recommend stopping at Johor Bahru for a memorable travel experience.
