"Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak”

Rachel Zoe, American Fashion Designer

This past year even though the pandemic turned the world upside down, but celebrities gave us the fashion by speaking their minds and offering a much-needed distraction from the tiring news cycle.

Let's discover the celebrity looks (according to my taste) that gave us a memorable fashion moment until now. And if you think a look is missing, let me know in the comment section, happy to consider your suggestions.

Actress Angela Bassett
Actress Angela Bassett

Actress Angela Bassett turned one of the best looks of the Oscars 2021 night. She worked with stylist Jennifer Austin, makeup artist D’Andre Michael, and hairstylist Randy Stoghill, Bassett crafted a look filled with drama.

A bright red piece in its crimson crepe fabric, off-the-shoulder design, and dramatic puff-sleeves. Her dramatic Alberta Ferretti gown spoke to a love of fashion with a fierce personality that is the personification of Angela Bassett.

The singer-songwriter, H.E.R was nominated for Best Original Song.

She made an interesting statement by drawing inspiration from music icon Prince.

H.E.R. is making her Academy Awards red carpet debut — in a look fit for a Prince. For her first trip down the red carpet, the Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter adorned a royal purple outfit that was inspired by the legendary musician, who died five years ago last week.

He wore a similar sparkling hooded outfit to the Oscars in 1985, the year he won Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain. The singer, who won for best original song for "Fight for You" from Judas and the Black Messiah, wore a custom look by Dundas.

This look comprised of a cobalt blue embellished hooded cape bordered in embellished lyrics from her song over a matching halter jumpsuit with cutout waist panels and the same lyric motif on cuffs and collar.

According to a spokesperson from the brand, designer Peter Dundas "wanted the jumpsuit to feel like armour.
Words have such great power and it's impossible not to feel touched by the important and impactful message of strength and justice behind the song. especially given what is happening in the world right now."

She paired the jumpsuit with her signature round sunglasses, also in an appropriate Prince-inspired hue, matching Giuseppi Zanotti heels and jewellery by Chopard.

H.E.R. finished off the iconic look with mauve lip colour and a smokey purple eyeshadow.

The singer-songwriter started the number off at a drum kit before moving out in front of her band, soon joined by a large phalanx of beret- (and mask-) wearing dancers styled to resemble the Black Panthers.

This powerful Oscars 2021 preshow performance was amplified by H.E.R greenish-yellow glittering look with black cuffs.

The circular platform at the centre of the stage atop the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures showed video images of Fred Hampton, whose betrayal and murder are at the heart of “Judas.” Twin banners bearing the message “Power of the people” were unfurled on either side of the platform.

Pop music icon Dua Lipa slew Elton John's Oscar Party to raise funds for the AIDS Foundation in an embezzled piece.

A high-neck, long-sleeved design featuring head-to-toe silver crystals with sheer, mesh panelling, shredded sleeves, and a fringed hemline.

The look was inspired by Morticia Addams's gothic gown in the 1960s series The Addams Family.

Dua Lipa's stylist Lorenzo Posocco completed the singer's look with white Balenciaga pointed-toe heels, Chopard earrings, and a Fabergé ring.

Regina King was the personification of a blue goddess at the 2020 Emmy Awards. Adorning a stunning Schiaparelli Couture gown by Daniel Roseberry. Her voluminous gown came in an electric blue colour. Her stylists, Wayman and Micah, posted images of the actress's award show look. The gorgeous shots taken by #JamesShootsAndDraws by James Anthony on a rooftop set up like a magazine cover shoot.

Her dress came with a high-low hemline and wrapped around one shoulder for a dramatic effect.

As for her jewels, Regina wore Established Jewelry, earrings by Bondeye Jewelry, and rings by Nouvel Heritage.

She finished her look off with a pair of gold, strappy Stuart Weitzman heels.

Black-ish star, who's nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2020 Emmys awards pulled out all the stops with a tiered gold gown by Alexandre Gauthier.

Channelling the metallic Emmys trophy, she shimmered in the plunging, ruffled gown, which also featured a thigh-high slit. This look balanced high fashion with a fun & easy feel.

For extra shine, Ross wore vintage Tiffany & Co. jewels and gold Jimmy Choo pointed-toe pumps.

Most importantly, she accessorized with a matching face mask.

Yara Shahidi's beauty moment for this year's virtual Emmy Awards didn't need a red carpet walk—in this case, a simple snap was enough to capture the look in all of its stylized glory. As done by her popping Instagram snap of her ensemble.

A first glance found focus falling on the actress' hair: A quintet of cornrows appeared to give way to clouds of onyx feathers, an optical illusion offered by the detailing of Shahidi's Prada gown.

The braids, which came courtesy of sculpturally-minded hairstylist Fesa Nu, were defined by sleek execution and creative detailing.

Rather than gelled, Shahidi's face-framing baby hairs were diminutive twists, each snaking from a tautly pulled plait. And while the ends of each braid may have initially appeared to culminate in a burst of plumage, the real finishers were simple knots, replacing hair bands with an additional ounce of texture.

A kittenish flick of liquid liner—deftly applied by makeup artist Emily Chengand a glowing complexion furthered the sleek styling making it a masterful creation of giving us everything.

In an epic Christopher John Rogers moment to present for the CDGA Awards, which celebrates excellence in costume design.

The celebrated actress, who never disappoints on the carpet, sported a bright orange, sleek gown and accessorized with Bulgari jewels.

This look is my favourite out of all the looks from the past year as it brilliantly balances sleek elegant gown in a neon orange colour with just the correct amount of sparkle added with her Bulgari Jewels.

The actress wore a beautiful emerald green Dior look, custom-made by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, to virtually attend the awards.

Her look was expertly captured by stylist Law Roach who was responsible for the striking ensemble; he shared a series of pictures and videos of the actress getting ready and waltzing through a hotel ballroom in the fitted lurex gown, which came with a matching floor-sweeping cape and classic court shoes, made from the same fabric.

The actress paired her couture gown with glittering Tiffany & co diamond jewellery.

The dress, which featured a draped bust and sheath, took three Dior workers 300 hours to make in the atelier. It also featured a low, scooped back with delicate cross-over straps.

This sparkly white wedding gown with intricate bedding and coupled with a matching bedded with a Victorian-style collar is a dress that I would want to wear someday.
