The Uncanny Counter: An Epic K-Drama on Netflix Exploring the After-Life

Updated: Aug 1, 2023

The Uncanny Counter follows the story of a charmingly handsome young high school student who has been disabled by an accident that took the lives of his parents seven years ago. Mun (Jo Byeong-kyu) is making a webcomic with his high school chums and going for a bite to eat when he is thrown up into the air and a malevolent spirit from the afterlife takes his body as host granting superhuman strength to him but he has to capture demon spirits with his newly granted powers.

Interestingly, the origins of the epic K-drama are from a Daum webtoon Amazing Rumor by Jang Yi.

The 16-episode show whose season 2 is going to be airing soon does a great service to mesh different genres together to create an epic drama with unconventional superheroes, the unexcepted funny moments, its tugs at your heartstrings with deeply moving sequences of tender moments and its the ultimate underdog success story of Mun and his team of counters who are on an never ending journey of catching demon spirits together.

Three of the Counters — Ga Mo-tak (Yoo Jun-sang), Do Ha-na (Kim Se-jeong) and Choo Mae-ok (Yeom Hye-ran) — pose as workers in Eonni’s Noodles, a noodle restaurant which serves as their hideout. They welcome Mun into the fold and the story unfolds.

To checkout their intrigue, be sure to watch this trailer, if your curiosity is peaked stream “ The Uncanny Counter” on Netflix now.

One of the most beloved Korean drama " The Uncanny Counter" is back after 3 years with a two episodes that will suck you into its vortex of fanatical storytelling of epic proportions.

The drama’s main leads — ‘The 5 Counters’— Jo Byeong Gyu (So Moon), Yoo Joon Sang (Ga Mo Tak), Kim Sejeong (Do Ha Na), Yeom Hye Ran (Choo Mae Ok), and Ahn Suk Hwan (Choi Jang Mool) are back. And the transformative gritty and dark characters of villains are being portrayed in season 2 by Kang Ki Young of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, I honestly couldn't recognize him as he got ripped and jacked for this role to the nth degree and “The Glory” actress Kim Hieora, who is dominating as a villain with her devilish smile both transform into powerful, screen stealing ruthless villains.

Kang Ki Young will play the role of Pil Gwang, a demon who dreams of becoming the top predator with the most evil powers in his possession acquired through( you know just watch to know more).

While Kim Hieora will be playing the role of Gelly, a character of pure evil.

Lastly, Yoo In Soo of “All of Us Are Dead” and “Alchemy of Souls” ( both K dramas I jave seen yet but will give the latter a chance as horror genre terrifies me)will be taking on the role of the newly recruited counter, Jeok Bong. He has a cheeky, innocent and gullible personality that gets taken for a rough ride through his counter training sessions.
